Kawa Relief – For Aching Muscles & Joints

One of the causes of recurring joint and muscular pain can be inflammation. Inflammation is the body’s natural response to injury and may be caused by infections, a physical accident, an immune response or aggravation of an old injury. Inflammation can occur anywhere there are damaged cells or scar tissue and the body responds by sending specific white blood cells and other chemicals to clean up the damage. The key signs of inflammation are pain, redness, heat, swelling, and loss of function.

There are loads of different foods you can include in your daily diet that can help reduce inflammation – these include turmeric, ginger, apple cider vinegar, pineapple, cannellini beans, cherries, sweet potato, wild-caught salmon (for Omega-3’s), flaxseed oil, papaya, chilli’s (Yes! Who knew…?), green leafy vege’s, broccoli, celery, berries (including blueberries and blackcurrants), dark chocolate (Yay), red capsicum, beetroots, and olive oil.

Another simple and tasty way to get some anti-inflammatory goodness into you is to make a daily smoothie. Our favourite recipes are below, but as you get the hang of it, you will start creating your own before too long. Don’t forget to message us and share your recipes!

Peppery pineapple punch

Mix the following ingredients in a blender until smooth:

  • 2-3 large fresh kawakawa leaves
  • Thumb nail-sized piece of fresh ginger root
  • 2 medium-sized apples (chopped – not peeled or cored)
  • 1 cup of fresh pineapple
  • 1 whole small lemon
  • 1 medium-sized carrot (chopped)
  • Thumb nail-sized piece of fresh turmeric
  • Add coconut water to dilute if desired

Banana-berry surprise

Mix the following ingredients in a blender until smooth:

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen mixed berries
  • Thumb nail-sized piece of fresh ginger root
  • ½ a lemon – skin on
  • 1 tbsp flaxseed oil or almond butter
  • 1 cup of coconut water (or filtered water) to cover
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

To assist the discomfort of aches and pains topically, Earth Energies have Kawa Relief cream – the name says it all! We have combined a synergistic blend of warming (clove and black pepper) and cooling (peppermint) essential oils with some tea-tree oil and our secret ingredient, Pukatea – a native NZ tree whose bark has analgesic (pain-relieving) properties. These ingredients are then carefully blended with our organic kawakawa infused grapeseed oil.

Kawa Relief is ideal for joint and muscle discomfort, old injuries that flare-up in the cold, after a workout or bike ride, or as a preventative before any form of exercise.

Kawa Relief can be used up to three times daily to assist with discomfort. Massage gently into the affected areas. You can apply a hot pack to further assist the absorption and increase the benefits.
